ELEMENTARY PROGRAM

At Sacred Heart of Jesus our elementary program offers students the opportunity to develop skills necessary to achieve scholastically in a loving and spiritually nurturing environment. Students are given social and spiritual guidance through the incorporation of religious studies in the daily curriculum.

The preschool program is currently hosted on the lower level of the parish building. Both morning and afternoon sessions are available, depending on age.

Kindergarten is hosted in the school building facility. The school day begins at 7:55 and ends at 3:20. Students are dismissed with the rest of the SHOJ student body.

PRESCHOOL

Our preschool program is dedicated to helping children discover and nourish their unique talents, given to them by God, through modeling, praying, learning, art, and play.

2025-2026 Preschool Programs:

3's: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 12:00 - 3:00 (Thursdays if enrollment numbers permit)

Pre-K: Monday through Friday from 8:00 - 11:00.

KINDERGARTEN & 1st GRADE

Kindergarten and 1st Grade establish good classroom expectations and procedures to assist in each child’s success, confidence and well-being. Our classroom environment is safe and secure; allowing a child to learn, develop self-discipline, good work habits, how to resolve conflicts peacefully, and think independently.

2nd Grade

2nd grade is a sacramental year for SHOJ students. Not only do students continue in their academic growth, but it is a big year for SPIRITUAL growth as well. Students will make their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during the year. Experiencing the power of Reconciliation and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist are two of the most important events (along with Confirmation in middle school) in the lives of our students and their families.

Ms. Morgan

Ms. Rachel - Lead Teacher

Hi!

My name is Rachel Morgan, I have been a part of the Sacred Heart Parish since I was two years old. I attended Sacred Heart Catholic School Pre-K through 5th grade.I attended Benedictine College and received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Special Education. I taught for one year in 1st grade at Atchison Elementary School before moving closer to home. I have spent the last three years caring for Individuals with Disabilities, teaching them life and job skills. After much prayerful consideration, I have felt called to return to elementary education. I am so honored and blessed to have received the opportunity to return to my elementary school and teach in the community that raised me. I am so excited for this year, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone!

Ms. Gemma

Ms. Gemma - Asst. Teacher

Hello Sacred Heart Families!

My name is Miss Gemma, and I'm so grateful to be joining the preschool team as an assistant teacher this year! I studied Psychology and minored in Education at Benedictine College, where I also played on the women's lacross team, and I'm currently pursuing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UMKC.

Working with children has always been my greatest joy. I've spent years nannying and babysitting, and recently worked in behavioral therapy supporting children on the autism spectrum. I love creating a classroom environment where each child feels save, loved, and able to grow in both virtue and friendship. (See more)
