As we celebrate Ms. Kellan as she prepares to head off to medical school this fall—she will be missed dearly—we are also excited to welcome our new health room specialist, Ms. Shelly Jarvis!

Ms. Jarvis is a Prince of Peace parishioner, as well as a loving mother and grandmother. She brings with her a wealth of experience in both the healthcare field and in living out her faith. She is a graduate of North Central Kansas Technical College in Concordia, KS, and is a licensed practical nurse with multi-state licensure. She is also IV- and CPR-certified.

From Ms. Jarvis:
"I've been blessed with a variety of nursing experiences over the years, including long-term care, home health, and hospice. For the past two years, I've been serving children with disabilities and their families in a home setting. It's exciting to begin this new adventure at Sacred Heart School! I look forward to getting acquainted with everyone and serving our community. My hope and prayer is that I serve well each day, bringing the light and love of Christ to all He places on my path. I can't promise perfection, but I do promise to put my Catholic faith and my heart into my work and to always do my best."

Please join us in giving Ms. Jarvis a warm welcome! And be sure to thank Ms. Kellan for all she has done this past year, and wish her every success as she begins medical school this fall!

"Love the children first, and then teach them." — Saint Mother Theodore Guerin

This quote perfectly explains the smile on this teacher's face. Mrs. Jones (pictured here with a GINORMOUS smile) loves her students with her whole being. As gentle as her heart is, she is equally super competitive.

During March Madness, Sacred Heart was also in the middle of state testing. Mrs. Jones created the first annual March Madness of Random Things. Every student filled out a bracket to predict what middle schoolers would choose as the best "thing."

Taylor Swift vs. Hoodie Sweatshirts
Chicken Nuggets vs. Xbox

So, what won the BIG DANCE of random things? Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄 Sixth graders Will and Sofie took home the grand prize for having the best brackets in middle school.

We can't wait for next year's tournament!

On Wednesday, we had a special assembly to celebrate kindness. Each year, we ask students to write The Kindest Kansas Citian Essay about someone in their lives who shows kindness in not just big ways, but in the small, everyday moments - through patience, generosity, encouragement, and love. As we listened and celebrated, students were invited to think about this question: Who in your life shows kindness? And perhaps more importantly, how can you be that person for someone else? Thank you to all the students who nominated a special person in their lives, and to all those we honored on Wednesday. We are so grateful for you.

Check out our Resource Team

With over 100 years of experience at Sacred Heart (really??)—and 128 years in education—they are the backbone of our school. Their impact goes far beyond the classroom, supporting both students and teachers with a passion for service and a deep desire to see all students reach their potential. It is a beautiful and holy call that God has placed on their hearts.

Preparing minds for the future and souls for eternity means meeting students where they are—and this team does just that. They move seamlessly across grade levels, stepping in where needed to ensure every student gets what they need to succeed.

Meet our team:

Kim Dreiling – Speech Pathologist & K–2 Reading Intervention
Jennifer Diel & Kathleen Coup – 3–5 Reading Intervention & Enrichment
Andrea Meidinger – 6–8 Reading & Writing Intervention, Certified Dyslexia Coach
Julie Heinking – 6–8 Math Intervention Support
Nicole Mayfield – K–1 Para Support
Sarah Hart – Director of Student Services & K–5 Math Intervention

Every member of our Resource Team has completed—or is actively working toward—training in the Science of Reading.

They are innovators and difference makers. We are so blessed.

What does it really mean to form hearts and minds? Today, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Parish and School faculty and staff came together for formation led by Sebastian D’Amico from the Blessed Seelos Institute. We dove deeper into virtue—reflecting on how we are created in the image of God and called to grow in His likeness. We explored virtue as ordered love and what it means to guide souls to love what they ought… especially what is transcendent. Grateful for this time to refocus on our mission: preparing minds for the future and souls for eternity.

Our Middle School Team is truly amazing! With a combined 87 years of teaching experience, these dedicated educators bring passion, expertise, and heart to our classrooms each day.

Now in their fourth year teaching together, this team has built a strong culture of collaboration, meaningful relationships, and a shared commitment to our Catholic faith.

With 54 of those years spent at Sacred Heart, we are incredibly grateful for the lasting impact they’ve had—shaping minds for the future and souls for eternity.

Mr. Herzet and Mrs. Rockers attended the National Catholic Educators Association (NCEA) Annual Conference this week, learning alongside Catholic educators from across the country.

One resounding theme: the importance of connecting our Catholic faith and the teachings of the Church to the ongoing growth of our students. Their health of mind, body, and spirit must be integrated at every moment.

Grateful for this time to reflect, learn and plan for the future of Sacred Heart School.

Saint Teresa of Calcutta believed that the fruit of love is service. We see the love in the service of our Book Fair volunteers. Check out this mother/daughter duo working yesterday. There is just an extra added boost of energy in the school when the book fair is here. Thanks to Anna Kumru and Ashlee Tomasic for organizing this fundraiser that provides additional resources to our classrooms. Thank you to all of our awesome book fair volunteers- We love how you show up!
